War and Religion

Everyone knows that the relationship between religion and war is a very current topic that never stops attracting people’s curiosity. A clear example could be the endless conflict that afflicts Israel and Palestine today. This episode, like many others in the world, raises many questions. How can religion cause the start of an armed conflict? Can religion really control all conflicts and decide to go on or stop it? And which is the real link between religion and war?

All these themes are discussed in one of our forthcoming titles, Gods anImaged Arms: On Religion and Armed Conflict, that will be published in June.

The author of the book is Professor Kjell-Åke Nordquist who conducted much research about this subject in the Department of Peace and Conflict Research of the Uppsala University in Sweden.

Gods and Arms tries to make this unusual connection a little bit more understandable, considering a variety of conflict and war situations and also religious peace work from different contexts.
